Pastor's Ponderings - February 2012
Dear Friends,
Yesterday, as I read Paul's words for the umpteenth time, they struck me hard. "In view of all this, what can we say?"
(Romans 8:21a) Paul continues: "We have complete victory through him who loved us! I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below - there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord!" (Romans 8:37-39)
Our stores may be filled with reminders of love. After all, Valentines will soon be exchanged. along with flowers and perhaps a meal out with special friends and loved ones. Yet, the love of God for each of us is the greatest love.
On Wednesday, February 22, I invite you to join family and friends for Ash Wednesday services at Vincent UMC. We will have the imposition of Ashes as a part of the 5:15 @ Faith services in the chapel and again in a joint service with Vincent at 7 PM. As you bear the ashes on your forehead or hand, you are reminding the world of your recognition that:
- You understand that you are a sinner;
- You believe that God forgives;
- You believe that God can forgive your sin - and loves YOU enough to have done so through Jesus Christ on Calvary
A special service of worship and Imposition of Ashes will be held for Des Lacs UMC on Tuesday evening, February 21 at 7 PM.
Remember, friends, soon it will be Lent...a wonderful season of love. See you in church!
